Completed projects in Melaka

This is a mixed development consisted of two hotel towers, two apartment towers and a shopping complex. The two apartment towers are 44 storey with a viewing deck across the two towers. At present moment, it is the tallest building in Melaka.

The building was not tall, but the subsoil was the source of difficulty. It was soft marine clay. The design and construction were by others. Due to different level of soft marine clay during excavation for the construction of pile caps, the soil moved and broke the 600 mm diameter spun piles in the way. The Owner decided to engage a new contractor for the work. RELIACON worked with the new contractor to complete the project. Many design and construction procedure needed to be altered. Basically involved the redesign of pile caps made them as thin as possible. Merged the pile caps with the ground slab to reduce depth of excavation. Redesign of ground slab system by introducing bend beam design to speed up the construction. The whole site to be excavated 400 mm to reduce the difference of excavation levels. Excavation and construction needed to be pile cap by pile cap. Completion of pile cap and the ground floor structure connecting to a completed pile cap needed to be done in one day time.

This was originally designed with beam-column concept. RELIACON redesigned the structure with shear wall concept. With the reduction of load intensity by using shear wall, raft foundation became possible. Saving of construction cost by using shear wall and raft foundation was significant.

In response to Client's requirement to have simple cantilever walkway slab, RELIACON managed to design the walkway slab without beam.
